In recent years the Masonic Order in Ireland
has become increasingly involved in the provision of Housing and Sheltered
Accommodation. The most recent project is St. John's
Close, Virginia, Co. Cavan. There are four Bodies directly involved. Click on the relevant entry

Founded in 1977, the principal
activity of the Association is to provide housing, primarily for senior citizens. At
present they have provided over 250 dwellings in various areas of Northern Ireland
including, Eglington, Dunmurry, Garnerville, Donaghadee, Ballywalter,
Lurgan,Carrickfergus, Enniskillen, and two sites in Londonderry. Houses are
allocated by the Committee which is governed by the same 'points' system used by the
Northern Ireland Housing Executive.

The Mission of Masonic Havens is
the Care of the Elderly by the provision of residences and/or appropriate
financial and other assistance, so that their quality of life may be enhanced,
their independence fostered, and their dignity preserved.

Limited is the Care of the Elderly by the provision of residences and/or
appropriate financial and other assistance, so that their quality of life may be
enhanced, their independence fostered, and their dignity preserved.
The shareholders of this
company are all Masons under the Irish Constitution. Currently it runs three
projects:-
1.
Carrick Manor: Sheltered
Housing for the active elderly at Carrickbrennan Road, Monkstown, Co. Dublin,
Ireland, comprising of 5 en suite Rooms in the Main House, 12 Apartments in the
Apartment Building and 9 Bungalows in the grounds.
2.
St. Joseph’s Nursing Home: A
43-bed Nursing Home at Lurgan Glebe, Virginia, Co. Cavan, Ireland.
3.
St. John’s Close: Sheltered
Housing for the active elderly on land adjoining St. Joseph’s at Virginia,
consisting of 26 bungalows each suitable for a couple or a single person. There
is also a Community Centre.
The company, which is limited by guarantee, was formed by
a group of Irish Freemasons in 1975. Qualifying criteria for residents include
their social and financial needs.

Charity in 1984, its purpose is to encourage Masons to set up and maintain Masonic
Sheltered Housing Accomodation.
