On Saturday 2nd March 2002 the Grand Lodge of Ireland met in the Rochestown House Hotel, Cork to celebrate the 275th Anniversary of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Munster - the celebrations having been postponed from 2001 because of Foot & Mouth restrictions within the island of Ireland.
On the previous evening many of the visiting brethren were welcomed by Harmony Lodge 555 in the Tuckey Street hall where they witnessed an excellent Third Degree given by R.W.Bro. Gordon A Thompson.
At lunchtime on the Saturday the Provincial Grand Lodge of Munster hosted a reception and light lunch for the officers of Grand Lodge and other distinguished guests. Once again the venue was the very impressive facilities at Tuckey Street and prior to lunch R.W.Bro. Alan Campbell (Provincial Grand Master designate) gave a detailed and informative "potted history" of Munster Masonry - the full test of which is available HERE.
On the Saturday afternoon the main function room at the Rochestown House Hotel was the venue for the Grand Lodge meeting. A large number of Freemasons from all over Ireland and further afield were present to witness the Grand Master installing two new Provincial Grand Masters. R.W.Bro. Alan J Campbell as Provincial Grand Master of Munster and R.W.Bro. Ralph D Seligman as Provincial Grand Master of Bermuda. On the same occasion R.W.Bro. George Dunlop - Deputy Grand Master - was invested as representative of the Grand Lodge of the Netherlands and R.W.Bro. Gordon A Thompson was invested as representative of the National Grand Lodge of Poland.
In the evening the same venue was transformed for a function where the Provincial Grand Lodge of Munster hosted a magnificent banquet for approximately 450 brethren, their ladies and guests - a very fitting end to a memorable weekend when even the weather could not have been better for the time of year.
