Non-Masonic Charities

Masonic Lodges throughout Ireland have been involved in fund raising ventures to help support   'local' and ‘national’ non Masonic Charities. 

Freemasonry and Secrecy are often wrongly linked by those not familiar with our activities. However, in connection with their Charitable Work, it is true to say that Masons prefer to be discreet when discussing their achievements.

The following is a list of some Charitable Organisations which have benefited from the generosity of Irish Freemasons in more recent years:-

• The Renal Unit in the Royal Victoria Hospital

• Funds to aid in the completion of the transept in St. Ann’s Cathedral.

• £400,000 was raised to set up the Freemasons of Ireland Medical Research Fund from which research grants amounting to £200,000 have already been made.

• Sufferer’s from Alzheimer’s Disease are now benefitting from the recent appeal, which raised £500,000 to supply Ambulances, Helplines and other facilities to ease the plight of sufferers and their carers throughout Ireland.

Many individual Lodges also raised funds to help non Masonic charities in their areas.

Beneficiaries include:-

• Breast Cancer Unit at Dundonald Hospital

• Meningitis Research as a result of a Musical Evening organised by the Provincial Priory of East Ulster.

• Newry Hospice funds were given a big boost by the Social Club and Lodges in that area.
