May I first of all welcome you to the Web-Site for the Grand Lodge of Ireland.  I am proud to be associated with this project and honoured to have been asked to provide a foreword.

Dating from 1725, when Richard, 1st Earl of Rosse was installed as Grand Master, Grand Lodge has enjoyed continuous working ever since. Indeed, in the year 2000 there will be a series of celebrations held throughout the Irish Constitution to commemorate its 275 years in being.

The Irish Constitution extends to almost every corner of the earth and boasts some 38,000 members in its ranks; and I hope and trust that many of our Brethren (especially our Brethren overseas) will be able to avail of this Internet facility and thereby keep in closer contact with Grand Lodge. To our non-Masonic friends / visitors / enquirers, may I also extend the hand of friendship; and welcome you to the world’s largest fraternity, whose underlying principles are founded on friendship, charity and integrity. I am delighted to see that you have taken the time to look at these pages and hope that you will find something of interest to whet your appetite.

I feel privileged to be the Grand Master and if, by using the Internet we can promote the ideals of our Order and even recruit new Masons to our ranks, as well as factually informing those who wish to remain outside the Order, then I will have deemed this project to be a success.

  M.W.Bro. Darwin H. Templeton C.B.E.
